Get To Know Me & Life During Lockdown
There is nowhere I’d rather be during this time than at home with my family. I’m feeling a lot of gratitude that I am able to spend time with my loved ones.
At the beginning of our time at home we definetlienjoyed our time to the fullest gathering cooking recipes and trying out some ideas for “pantry cooking” as much as we travel live so seasonally we definitely experience leaner times, much like in the viking age there’s a time where the winter storage runs low and spring isn’t quite yet providing for the coming year. its the hard reality of pursuing the life that we are. Its natures glorious balance of life and death, good times and bad times. and I absolutely appreciate and respect the lessons and our ability to be adaptable and to persevere through it.
Given the state of the world we wanted to make cloth face masks for ourselves and our loved ones, completely unaware it would take over our lives for the coming months. I made the first one in the beginning of April and have continued to make masks every day since .
Its truly incredibly rewarding being able to put my skills to use like this.
I grew up with a mother that is very talented in pretty much every craft I can ever think of and in the beginning of my 20’s I sat her down and forced her to teach me how to sew properly and more in depth than the lessons she had given me when I was younger.
I have also for the past 4 years worked at a fabric store, I started this job specifically to learn more about fabric qualities and sewing techniques other than what my mother specialized in. Its such a broad craft with so many different materials to choose from that have unique properties to make them perfect for your project.
I have certainly focused more on wool, linen, hemp and silk uses in historical clothing but making modern every day clothing is something I have so much fun with as well as my main drive for learning how to sew which was simply to be able to maintain clothing for my family, to be able to alter and reuse fabric to minimize my families waste and to elongate the lifespan of my clothing and move away from the “throw away” mindset of modern society.
